Two minutes from now I’m going to have an answer for all of you on how high you should be teeing your tee shots so you can improve your swing. The new drivers that have come out in the last 5, 10 years have what is referred to as a deep face.

From the bottom to the top it’s about two or more inches. Most players associate all of that space with teeing the golf ball high. We even have three-inch tees now.

So, that isn’t true. You don’t need that. Some of you might, but most of you don’t.

So, here’s my rule of thumb for how high should you tee the driver: If the mistake you make is that you constantly top the golf ball, that isn’t always the answer. You could fix your posture and bend over a little bit and that would fix topping the golf ball.

If you always hit underneath the golf ball, this isn’t always the answer, where you tee it down so low. Maybe you simply need to get your chin up.

So, a great rule of thumb is that the golf ball should be slightly higher than the center of the club face.

If the golf ball sits much higher than the center of the face, the swing tip to improve your golf would have you hitting the golf ball on the upswing. If it was teed down close to the ground, and you tried to hit the golf ball on the upswing, you might wind up hitting a little grass behind it. Instead, you would have to hit this one on a little bit of the downswing, which is defeating the purpose of the driver. The driver’s swing is a sweeping swing. And you want to catch the golf ball at the bottom of the arc.

At worst, you want to catch it on the way up but not too much on the way up.

Experiment with your tee shots. Play a whole round of golf where you tee it a lot lower than normal, then the next round a little bit lower than normal. And then play the third round where you tee it real high.

Now, I have a great golf strategy for you. I recently played 18 holes on a little bit of an odd golf course.

It was a good golf course, but the first nine holes, there was out of bounds on the entire left side.

On the back nine there was desert on the entire right side, the first nine holes, trouble left.

The golf strategy I used was that on the first 9 holes, I teed every golf ball exactly the same height, as close to the ground as I possibly could.

The last nine holes, I teed every tee shot as high as I possibly could.

On the first nine holes, when I teed it down low, if you tee a golf ball as low as possible to the ground, it’s very difficult to get the club face to cross over and to hook it. I never hooked one ball out of bounds for the first nine holes.

The last nine holes, trouble right, this is very difficult to slice from here. The golf club will cross over and you’ll wind up hooking the tee shot way before you’d slice it.

I missed one fairway on the front nine and I never missed a fairway on the back nine.

The golf strategy to use here is instead of changing your golf swing, change the way you tee it: low for fades of slices and high for draws of hooks.

Thanks and the next time out, give that a try.

The golf swing is where most golfers make the most mistakes. Some of the most common mistakes include body position errors, grip errors, and mechanical errors. If your swing is not what it should be then you can correct the problems that you are having with a little help and a little practice.

The first step to developing the perfect golf swing is to know what a perfect swing looks like. If you want to see what a good golf swing should look like then you can either watch a professional golfer play a round of golf, or you can purchase a golf instruction video. These videos will show you how your body should be positioned, how to get a good grip, and how to properly initiate and complete your golf swing.

If you are still having problems with your golf swing then you many need to enlist the help of a golf coach. Golf coaches are a great option for people who are having problems with their golf swings because they can evaluate where your problems are occurring, and then they can recommend solutions. One solution that some coaches use to correct golf swing problems is a training aid. These aids help to isolate the swing problem and correct it by forcing your body to conform to the correct body position and range of motion. Golf coaches will also offer you great golf tips that you can implement into your training and playing, which will help to improve your overall game.

The final step to the perfect golf swing is practice. Now that you know why your swing isn?t perfect, as well as how you can correct your swing problems, you need to put this information into action. Practice your swing at home or in the park using your training aids. Then play as much golf as you can. The more that you practice your golf swing the better your swing will get.

Yes it’s hard to believe but there are more than 27 million golfers in the world today. It’s important to remember, your golf swing is what drives your score; not your clubs or ball. Many golfers play golf just to hack around and have some fun; more avid players are always looking for ways to improve their golf swing and their overall game.

It’s been proven that thinking positively about bettering your golf game will benefit you more than playing to compete with your partners and trying to win for winnings sake. Visualize where you would like the ball to land, as you swing. Overall, you generally want to play golf with confidence.

Swing slowly and steadily using a nice rhythm. Trust your golf club to do the job it was intended to do. Accomplished golfers purposely use sidespin to steer their ball around obstacles or towards the safe side of fairways and greens. When you swing if you have problems with your left knee buckling, imagine you’re holding a soccer ball between your knees.

The backswing is a rotation to the right, consisting of a shifting of the player’s body weight to the right side, a turning of the pelvis and shoulders, lifting of the arms and flexing of the elbows and wrists. As the body matures, the ability to rotate the upper torso is affected by age, and the hand action can also slow down requiring a slightly stronger grip.

Sidespin occurs when the clubface is not aligned perpendicularly to the plane of swing. Use the basic ‘hitchhiker’ position when you’re working on your backswing. Before you swing, make sure you’re relaxed; contract all your muscles tightly for a moment and then relax them.

Make sure to use the proper technique. At the end of a swing, the weight has shifted almost entirely to the left foot, the body is fully turned to the left and the hands are above the left shoulder with the club hanging down over the players’ back.

Once you understand that you can change your swing by using a simple technique, you’ll never underestimate golf fitness again. You can get rid of shoulder problems with some simple techniques. It’s no secret; most of the professional players actively participate in workouts.

Ask an expert, who is not associated with the shop you would buy your golf swing aid from, for advice on the right aid for you. Most of all don’t waste your money on a golf swing aid you don’t need or will never use. Be careful about the claims on TV commercials and magazine ads; seek expert advice before you buy because they may not live up to their claims.

Golf swing aids can be found online and are often cheaper. If you’re looking for an aid to improve your stance they’re not hard to find. There are a wide range of golf swing aids on the market today to help the beginning and advanced golfer.

Keep in mind that with some golf swing aids, you may still need advice or help from an expert. Overall, investing in golf swing aids will greatly improve your golf swing and your golf game. Golf swing aids come in all shapes and sizes including apparel type accessories to correct alignment or a golf club add-on accessory to monitor your swing.

Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just starting out, pick just one golf swing aid and go to work on your swing. You can find golf swing aids that will help you with your wrist and arm position.

Get some golf DVDs and commit yourself to a time to practice what you learn. Take as many private lessons as you can afford with a good golf pro. Golfers can never get enough golf tips.

Fitness training is one of the keys to help you improve your golf swing.

In addition fitness training can help you get in shape and feel better both on and off the golf course.

Performing exercises to build muscular strength can add power to your golf swing, boost your endurance, and loosen up your muscles and joints to help you avoid injuries both on and off the golf course. Most golfers will do the actual fitness training in a gym using either free weights, machines or a combination of both. However, you can also perform fitness training right at home using everyday items.

Your golf fitness training program should include exercises for the both the lower and upper body and primarily focus on those exercises that add to the motion of the golf swing. The program exercises should involve multi-joint movements that also include work for the torso. A strong, powerful golf swing requires coordination and strength in the major muscle areas of the body and therefore the exercises you perform should help you build both coordination and strength.

Before you start any sort of fitness training program you should always consult with your doctor, especially if you are a more mature golfer. If you know what type of exercises you will be performing and how often you will be training, make sure you cover them with your doctor. Your doctor should tell you if they have any concerns regarding the types of exercises you will be doing and your health.

Once you are done talking to your doctor, the next step is to determine where you are going to train. Most people perform their fitness training in some type of gym facility. Many gyms have certified personal trainers on hand who will be able to tailor a workout plan specifically for you to help you reach your goals. Before actually joining a gym, visit each one in your area and ask for a tour, or even a free pass for a week in order to check them out. Make sure that you are comfortable with the facility, the staff, the clientele and most of all the fitness training equipment you will be using.

Make no mistake about it, fitness training will provide you with benefits both on and off the golf course. Strengthing your body will enable you to transfer more power from your muscles into your swing allowing you to hit the ball farther and easier. So what are you waiting for? Get started on a fitness training program today and reap the benefits on the green tomorrow.

Success at playing golf largely revolves around your golf skills and the most important aspect is your golf swing. The ability to execute a powerful and balanced golf swing is the key to mastering golf. Here are some proven power tips to improve your golf swing.

Power Tip 1 A great golf swing is more than just swinging with your arms. Swing your golf club behind your back while you turn it to your target. It is like taking your club back as you hinge your arm at your shoulder. You could also practice the drill known as no arms.

Power Tip 2 You should not forget to cock your wrists. This might be difficult at first, but it will be natural to you with enough practice and will produce tremendous results.

Power Tip 3 Your left arm should turn clockwise slightly when you start the back swing. It is not really something that you actually should remember. It naturally happens if you would just allow it. This just means that you should not resist this movement that is just natural. You might not notice it, but you might have been resisting this movement because this causes the head of your golf club to go open slightly when you swing it. Just allow it to happen naturally.

Power Tip 4 Always plant your feet firmly on the ground. This technique is also commonly used in baseball. It involves letting your foot heel in front to come above the ground when you swing your golf club back. Some people think that by doing this so, their back swing feels bigger.

It is something that seems lifting the front heel can easily make the body coil and for the tension to build that much harder. Letting the foot roll freely to the inside is fine. However, one should keep that foot on the ground to make golf back swing well-anchored.

Power Tip 5 Work on your bottom golf down swing. Assuming that you accomplish all the drills correctly, from the golf stance, the golf grip you have, and your golf back swing. But you can still ruin everything if you begin the golf swing that you have with the shoulders. You might want to use a swing trigger to begin the golf down swing that you have with the lower part of your body.

Power Tip 6 Another tip on your golf down swing. You should turn the belt buckle to your target. Try turning your hips as powerful and fast as possible when you do your golf down swing, it works.

Have you ever heard of the old saying Practice Makes Perfect. I’m sure you have. A lot of people think that is good advice. On the surface it is, but what if your practice is full of inconsistencies and imperfections? What are you reinforcing? Are you developing good habits by still practicing the bad habits in the hopes that by some miracle something good will happen. That’s the way most people approach just about everything, from learning how to play the piano, to learning math skills in school, or developing a perfect golf swing.

I had the good fortune to realize this truth very early in life. I was a very serious musician growing up. Many people said I was a prodigy. What occurred to me when I was a lad was that if I kept practicing the same thing over and over again incorrectly, I was not improving my skills at all, but reinforcing my bad habits. So I changed my approach to my practicing. I would play my scales over and over again and if I made a mistake, I would stop and play that one note over and over again. Then I would take the few notes before it and make the approach again and again until I got it right.

I came up with the acronym practice doesn’t make perfect, perfect practice does. You must practice with perfection in mind and not settle for anything less, whether it’s music, or golf. If you make mistakes, stop and analyze why you made the mistake.

You must visualize perfection in your mind’s eye in order to achieve perfection. Of course, true perfection is unobtainable, but we can come close.

I went on in life and became a professional classical musician and well respected university professor. I had students come to me from all over the US to learn my methods of learning. I really didn’t teach anyone anything but how to teach themselves for the most part. Improving one’s skills is mostly a solitary event. You won’t have that teacher with you day in and day out to make sure you practice correctly, so it’s extremely critical to develop the ability to analyze your problems and come up with a solution yourself. A good teacher can assist you by checking your progress from week to week, but the ultimate responsibility is yours.

What does all this have to do with golf you ask? Well, it has a lot to do with it. There are all kinds of skills one must master in order to be a good golfer. Putting in a lot of time at the golf range won’t cut it if you are serious about improving one’s abilities. If you continue to reinforce your bad habits by practicing them to death, you are just reinforcing your muscle memory to do it wrong. For that reason, you must seek out a qualified teacher. You must learn the fundamentals and the mechanics of the perfect swing in your minds eye before you can perfect it physically. You must understand the mechanics of a perfect swing mentally first, so do yourself a favor and get a teacher to teach it to you.

After you understand the mechanics of the perfect swing, I personally wouldn’t recommend hitting the golf range. Not yet, at least. You have a lot of bad habits to unlearn first. If you put pressure on yourself by putting that ball in front of you, you will very easily slip back into your old habits.

I recommend you practice in your back yard first, without a ball. You need to concentrate on the mechanics of your backswing, your grip, your stance, the way you transfer power with your legs during your downswing, etc. You want to learn the correct way of doing everything, then reinforcing the correct method over and over again so everything becomes very fluid and you develop that muscle memory I talked about earlier. Once your muscles become adept at doing the mechanics the correct way, your motions will naturally become very fluid. Only then, would I recommend hitting the range and striking the ball. The first few times, I would advise that you have your teacher with you, to make sure the pressure of performing, or hitting the ball, doesn’t cause you to relapse into your old habits.

Understanding the mental aspect is very important, but learning how to relax both mentally and physically is also key. If your muscles aren’t loose and warmed up properly, then you will tend to alter your swing until those muscles do warm up. A good physical warm up and stretching routine will help you to loosen up. A tight muscle will seriously damage your efforts, so take your warm up routines seriously. You don’t want to undo all the good habits that you have learned. Muscles that aren’t warmed up properly tend to be carried by the ones that are. If you have muscle imbalances occurring then you will be doing more harm than good, so warm up properly and get all the muscles working together as a team.

This takes dedication and discipline to learn. When I first took up golf, I just went about it like most of you, just went out and hit the ball. When I decided to take it seriously, I thought to myself that all the principles I had developed to learn music would easily apply to golf, so I started taking lessons to learn the correct method, then I used the practice techniques I had developed in music and applied them to golf. I would practice various aspects of my swing as perfectly as possible, then I would put them all together and practice them as a whole. It took awhile but my scores started to drop. I went from scores in the 100′s to scores in the 80′s in 6 months. A year later I was a scratch golfer competing in local tournaments and winning a number of them. I strongly feel that if I had decided to, that I could have turned pro.

I believe that we all have the ability to do anything we want. If you want to be a musician, you can; a golfer, you can; a scientist, you can. We all have the ability to be great. To learn how to accomplish that is the key ingredient. If the desire is there, if the will is there, if the dedication is there, and above all, if the discipline is there, then you can achieve greatness.

Again, Practice Does Not Make Perfect! Perfect Practice Does!

You need great hand-eye coordination, balance, athletic ability and creativity to play golf. The biggest concerns of golfers today are inconsistency first of all, followed by slicing and distance. Finding ways to improve your golf game, then applying what you’ve learned and practicing, is the number one way to get ahead of the game.

Approach the game with a positive attitude and repeat affirmations if you can, such as “I play great golf all the time.” Visualize where you would like the ball to land, as you swing. A common mental error golfers make when driving the ball is to hit it as hard as possible.

Try not to grip the club too tightly. Make sure to use the proper technique. At the end of a backswing the hands are above the right shoulder, with the golf club pointing more or less in the intended direction of ball flight.

Swing slowly and steadily using a nice rhythm. Standing over the ball for too long a time and wondering whether you’re going to swing the club correctly can easily result in a skewed shot, or completely missing the ball. Accomplished golfers purposely use sidespin to steer their ball around obstacles or towards the safe side of fairways and greens.

Ask your golf pro to evaluate your posture while swinging. At the end of a swing, the weight has shifted almost entirely to the left foot, the body is fully turned to the left and the hands are above the left shoulder with the club hanging down over the players’ back.

As the body matures, the ability to rotate the upper torso is affected by age, and the hand action can also slow down requiring a slightly stronger grip. After the ball is hit, the follow-through stage consists of a continued rotation to the left. Putting can become a nightmare and a condition called the ‘yips’ has affected not only amateurs but professionals as well; get expert advice and consider a golf swing aid.

Many golfers have improved their golf game by concentrating on golf fitness. The golf swing is mostly rotational so it makes sense to concentrate on your turning ability as it relates to range of motion and speed. Conditioning your golf muscles will reward you with straighter swings.

There are golf swing aids that act as driving range simulators. Golf swing aids come in all shapes and sizes including apparel type accessories to correct alignment or a golf club add-on accessory to monitor your swing. If you’re looking for an aid to improve your stance they’re not hard to find.

There are a number of good golf swing aids on the market today. Look for golf swing aids at your local golf course. Make sure to look for reviews and ratings online for any golf swing aid you’re considering.

Overall, investing in golf swing aids will greatly improve your golf swing and your golf game. Ask an expert, who is not associated with the shop you would buy your golf swing aid from, for advice on the right aid for you. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just starting out, pick just one golf swing aid and go to work on your swing.

There are golf swing aids that will help you with swing alignment. Keep in mind that with some golf swing aids, you may still need advice or help from an expert.

There are hundreds of useful golf tips to seek out in golf magazines, consumer magazines, sports magazines, in books, ebooks, DVDs, online and offline. If you can, sit in on a friend’s golf lesson to see if you connect with the pro. If you apply both physical and mental workouts, golf swing improvement will be your reward.

Golf swing weight training is as specific as you can get in regards to golf training to improve power, distance and iron yardages with every club. Wouldn?t you love to add 10 yards to every iron? Instead of a 150 6 iron, you?re hitting a consistent 7 iron the same distance.

This alone will greatly improve your ?greens in regulation? and getting more shots closer to the pin. The end result is a much lower score.

Golf swing weight training shouldn?t be new to you. You?ve heard all the pros train for their game. So why shouldn?t you? Here?s one secret that can add a quick 20 yards to your driver in less than a week or so.

Swing a weighted club!

This is not revelating stuff, but I?m here to tell you it?s one of the quickest and most effective ways to increase your distances with all clubs.

The benefit is developing the exact golf swing muscles from a strength and flexibility standpoint within your golf swing. You’ll improve your backswing and follow through range of motion, as well as your power through the hitting zone.

In all my dvds, books and websites I preach the importance of a balanced routine of both golf stretching and strengthening exercises for all your golfing muscles. This is critical for your long term success.

I am an advocate of this approach, and strongly suggest you be too. There are many muscles swing the weighted club don’t hit that can be affecting your game. Like the hamstrings, lower back and even abs.

But how about a little shortcut along the way?

Golf swing weight training is something I?ve personally been doing for over 10 years and I?m fortunate enough to say I can consistently drive the ball over 300 yards. I don?t say that to brag, but to say this type of training and approach is effective and works!

Because I?m not a big guy like all those long drive competitors, golfers are surprised when they see me hit a drive. They all seem to ask how can I do that? Immediately I go into my golf trainer mode and precede to tell them the importance golf swing weight training and working on the ?machine? to hit longer drives.

Within a couple of holes they are hitting me with a ton of questions they want answered. By the time I?m done, I wished I hadn?t told them what I do for a living.

No I?m just kidding.

By doing a golf swing weight training program that incorporates strength, flexibility and weighted clubs you will see the quickest results that last long term.

Your golfing buddies might think your crazy, but you?ll get the last laugh.

The winning combination is swing technique and golf swing weight training!

If you’re a long time slicer, then these are perfect golf swing drills to help you build a solid swing and teach you how to correct your slice. A straight ball goes much longer than a hooked or sliced shot, and research done by Golf Digest proved this fact to be true. Many professionals such as Jack Nicklaus and the legendary Ben Hogan have had great success by learning to hit a consistent controlled fade. Unlike those legendary players, most players just want to hit straighter golf shots. If you have problems pushing or slicing the golf ball then you’re not alone. Slicing is the number one problem that plagues most golf swings.

If you want to stop slicing one golf swing drill perfect for helping to correct a slice is to practice on the range with a club, usually around a five iron to seven iron that has a molded golf grip to make sure your hands stay in the correct position all the way thru your golf swing. Hand position is extremely important throughout the entire swing and a molded golf grip will help to build the proper muscle memory in your hands, wrist, and forearms for a correct swing. The great Harvey Penick once said, “If you’re slicing, then look to the hands.” That’s good advice because the typical slicer can correct their problem by making sure their hands are properly positioned on the golf club throughout the entire golf swing. If the hands aren’t positioned correctly the club face can remain open at impact producing the dreaded slice.

One of the most common and affective golf drills for straightening a slice is to turn your hands a little counter clockwise on the golf shaft. Just move your hands around just a bit more than a normal grip would be in the counter clockwise direction. You’re slicing because your hands haven’t turned over at impact so the club face is still a bit open. Although this tip doesn’t work with all golfers you may find that this swing drill will help you close the face of the club at impact and hit a much straighter golf shot.

Another common mistake golfers make is that they don’t keep their left shoulder down through their swing. If your left shoulder comes up before impact the tendency is for the arms to turn outward towards impact which opens the face of the club and produces a sliced golf shot. Golfer who tend to raise their head up before impact often find themselves slicing because they also raise their left shoulder and turn their chest too quickly. A great golf swing drill for keeping your head and shoulder down through your golf swing is to turn your head back to your right (this example refers to a right handed golfer) and look back at the ball with your eyes instead of looking straight down. This will give you an extra split second over the ball during your swing and help you keep your head down.

Breaking it down simply, if you want to stop slicing then you’re going to have to stop spinning the golf ball clockwise. Whatever is causing you to slice is probably now a habit within your swing if you’ve played for any length of time. In order to stop slicing you’ll have to identify what part of your golf swing is causing you to leave the club face open at impact. You may want to spend an hour with a golf professional who will video tape your golf swing and will help you pinpoint your problem area. There’s also a ton of inexpensive literature on the Internet that will show you the swing drills that work and that will help you develop a better golf swing.

On your next outing to the driving range take your video recorder and a friend and tape yourself hitting a variety of your clubs just like you would on the golf course. Video taping your swing is one of the most effective ways of finding your swings weak or problem areas. Get a good book of golf swing drills and sit back on your couch and tear your swing apart. Not only will you learn more about proper swing techniques but you’ll be on your way to a smoother more consistent swing and lower scores.
